Looking for a fun date? Are you fresh out of ideas for dates? Are you tired of the same-old, same-old? Dinner and a movie can be a treat if you never have a chance to get out. But if you are running out of restaurants to try and are starting to blur the plots of the latest hunt-and-chase films, you might consider something different. Fun date ideas:
· KARAOKE
A great fun date is singing...even if you can't carry a tune. Maybe you haven’t always wanted to be a rock star or a country singer, but there can be a huge sense of adventure and accomplishment when you press yourself to do something you’ve never done. Go ahead—be brave enough to make a fool of yourself. Your date will probably become a “fool for love” if you have the guts to do this.
· TRAIN RIDES
Train rides are fun dates. If you do not take a train to work every day, this can be a fun way to ride, talk, and enjoy the view outside your window. Add a little box lunch you picked up at the Deli and you’ll be good to go for as long as you want. If you have never been good at conversation, this is your chance to talk about what you see. Maybe you’ll develop a TV-like running commentary by the end of the trip. Don’t forget to give your date a chance to talk.
· COOKING CLASS
Cooking is fun when you do it together. Somewhere near you, someone is cooking up a cooking class. A fun date is to take the class together. Anything can happen…and it usually does. If what the two of you cook up is inedible, head on over to Denny’s after class and have a bowl of cereal.
· THINGS THAT GO BOO IN THE ZOO
The zoo is always a fun date. Do you remember going to the zoo as a kid and wanting to skip the small stuff and head right for the tigers, lions, and elephants? How about the monkeys and gorillas? Now that you’re an adult, you get to do this. However, if this is a first date or a blind date, on second thought, maybe you had better skip the monkeys. You never know when they will become X-rated.
· VOLUNTEERING FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Good causes are fun dates if you enjoy contributing to others. Look for a cause you and your date feel connected to and attend an event where you can help. Stuffing holiday bags with food, serving in a soup kitchen, writing letters to servicemen, washing dogs at the Humane Society, picking up trash along the road, or any other organization that you both want to help is a great and meaningful date.
Sometimes, what we think is a good date idea is a big mistake. Here are some dates that could turn sour.
Not so fun dates:
· CHALLENGING SPORTS
It's not fun if your date is good at sports activities and you are not. You might be able to bike for 100 miles, but don’t expect your date to be able to. I LIKE biking. But several times around the block and I’m ready for my orange juice and vitamins. The same could be said for swimming across a lake, chopping down a tree, or surfing the melting glaciers of Iceland. Any sport that requires endurance may test your date’s good will.
· VISITING YOUR FAMILY
Visiting your family might be fun, but don't count on it being a thrill for your date. Your date needs a lot of preparation. They need to know about the 40-year-old sitting in the corner playing with Tinker-Toys, or your grandmother’s habit of breaking into Broadway tunes, or the fact that your mother may try to enlist your date to sell water filters. You may take these things for granted, but to a new person, it helps to know a little history about the family. Save this date for later.
· EXOTIC FOODS
If your date has a queasy stomach, nausea is not fun. Personally, this is not one I do well. I can’t seem to think about eating something I might have once stepped over on the sidewalk, but I suppose I need re-programming. Don’t choose this scenario for a date.
Here’s the good news: if you love your date, whatever you do, you will probably have a great time. It’s not what you do when you go out…it’s the attitude you take along with you. It’s all part of your single’s adventure…and those fun dates.
